Job summary

City of Bartow seeks a civilian non-sworn Digital Evidence Specialist to manage the lifecycle of digital evidence for the Bartow Police Department, including body-worn cameras, in-car video, ALPR media, Axon digital evidence, stationary cameras, and photos, ensuring proper labeling and retrieval.

The role ensures compliance with Florida public records law, GS2 retention schedules, and cross-agency requests, while maintaining chain-of-custody integrity and facilitating court preparations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associates degree or higher preferred.
• Experience with Axon/Evidence.com platforms highly preferred.
• Knowledge of Florida public records law (Chapter 119) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Manage the full lifecycle of digital evidence, including intake, classification, cataloging, storage, dissemination, retention, and purging.
• Review, redact, and prepare BWC and in-car video footage for release in accordance with Chapter 119, F.S., FOIA, and policy.
• Ensure digital evidence is properly labeled and cross-referenced with incident reports and case numbers.
• Generate audit trails and maintain chain-of-custody integrity.
• Process public records and discovery requests and respond to subpoenas as required.
• Assist with onboarding, user certification, and training for Axon systems.
• Prepare digital evidence for court, depositions, and administrative hearings.
• Maintain inventory and ensure equipment is functional and ready for deployment.
