Job summary

The University of Delaware seeks a Digital Accessibility Manager to lead a team of accessibility specialists and ensure all digital assets, including websites, multimedia, applications, and third-party products, comply with WCAG and WAI-ARIA standards.

You will collaborate with Procurement and campus units, perform regular accessibility audits, track metrics, and guide remediation plans while mentoring staff and providing training to the campus community in Newark, DE.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of six years related experience or equivalent.
  • Experience with magnification, speech recognition, screen readers, color contrast, keyboard-only navigation, and accessibility testing tools.
  • Familiarity with WCAG/AA, UAAG/ATAG, and WAI-ARIA standards.
  • Excellent communication and project leadership abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Digital Accessibility Specialist role and oversee campus accessibility efforts.
  • Identify and implement tools for monitoring web accessibility.

Pay Grade: 32E Context of Job The DigitalAccessibility Manager works with Technology AccessibilitySpecialists and other campus clients such as Procurement to ensuredigital assets, including but not limited to website, multimedia,applications, and third-party digital products and services, arecompliant with the latest versions of the Web Accessibility ContentGuidelines (WCAG) and Web Accessibility Initiative Accessible RichInternet Applications Suite.

Major Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and oversight of the Digital AccessibilitySpecialist role.
  • Provide support to digital specialists across campus units,guiding production of accessible user experiences.
  • Identify, implement, and oversee tools for monitoring webaccessibility.
  • Assess the use of and future needs for accessibility technologyand governance tools such as monitoring and reporting, speechrecognition, screen reader, and other tools.
  • Serve as approver for large-scale, high-impact digitaltechnology purchases, development, or implementations.
  • Assist Procurement and departments with the purchase ofaccessible digital products and services.
    Manage relationships with accessibility vendors.
  • Assist departments with the development of remediation plansfor inaccessible web content or digital products or services.
  • Perform regular accessibility audits and track metrics forassessing and measuring success in accessibility and supportofferings.
  • Work with the Digital Accessibility Specialist to providetutorials, guidelines, and training to campus.
  • Work with the Director of Disability Support Services inimplementing appropriate and effective solutions/products tosupport independence for people with disabilities.
  • Stay abreast of all current and future accessibilityregulations and compliance standards, best practices, and solutionsto promote and enable accessibility.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree with six years of related experience orequivalent combination of education and experience. A degree inInformation Science, Information Design, Computer Science,Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Quality Assurance, LearningTechnology, Assistive Technology or a related discipline ispreferred.
  • Master’s degree or PhD is preferred
  • International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP)certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with magnification, speech recognition,usage of screen readers, color contrast, keyboard-only navigationand other accessibility testing techniques and tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to use assistive technologies andaccessibility-related software including some or all of thefollowing: JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, Window-Eyes, ZoomText, MAGic,Dragon NaturallySpeaking or other speech recognition software.
  • Demonstrated experience with testing for web accessibilityissues.
  • Demonstrated project management experience, organizationalskills, and a track record of leading and collaborating on multipleprojects with diverse teams and alone.
  • Familiarity with User Agent Accessibility Guidelines (UAAG) andAuthoring Tools Accessibility Guidelines (ATAG).
  • Familiarity with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, or other codinglanguages.
  • Technical knowledge of accessibility, usability, and UniversalDesign standards.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of the Web ContentAccessibility Guidelines (WCAG) level A and AA and the WebAccessibility Initiative Accessible Rich Internet ApplicationsSuite (WAI-ARIA)
  • Excellent communication skills (oral, written, listening,presentation) and relationship building.
  • Experience leading teams.
