Job summary

University of Washington UW Medicine NW is seeking a Dietary Unit Clerk for an intermittent per-diem role. The position processes patient menus, coordinates tray-line production, and communicates with patients and clinical staff to ensure accurate diet information and service.

Responsibilities include handling diet orders, updating computer records, helping patients choose meals, and coordinating with production staff for tray-line output during the evening shift.

Qualifications

• One year of experience as a Dietary Unit Aide in a health care facility or equivalent.
• Possession of, or eligible to obtain a Washington State Food Worker Card within two weeks of employment.
• High school graduation or GED; additional experience may substitute for the educational requirement.
• Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except for legal licenses/certifications.

• Assists patients in selecting food choices as directed by clinical nutrition protocols.
• Meets/speaks with patients to understand preferences and special needs.

• Updates diet information, preferences, and orders in computerized kardex.
• Generates tally guide for tray-line production staff at specified times.
• Communicates additions to production staff throughout the day.
• Checks tray-line for accuracy and appearance of patient meals.
• Answers questions and gives direction to department staff regarding patient meal production and delivery.
• Answers telephone calls from patients and clinical staff.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

• Processes all patient menus, including those for the tray line and room service program.

• Coordinates food production according to established menus, answers telephone calls from patients and clinical staff, and prepares records and reports.
