Position Summary - Dietary Manager:
The primary purpose of this role is to develop and oversee the Dietary Department's operations, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local standards and regulations, and providing quality nutritional services daily. The manager maintains a clean, safe, and sanitary environment.
Essential Job Functions:
- Coordinate dietary services with other departments (e.g., Nursing, Housekeeping, Social Services).
- Assist in developing departmental policies, procedures, and managing equipment and supplies.
- Develop assessments of residents' dietary needs.
- Create written dietary care plans identifying problems and goals.
- Schedule care plans and assessments for review in meetings.
- Ensure staff are aware of and use care plans in daily services.
- Identify any special equipment needed for residents.
- Review and update care plans quarterly.
- Provide substitute foods of similar nutritional value when residents refuse certain foods.
- Be competent in using and maintaining kitchen equipment.
- Inspect storage and utility areas for upkeep and supply control.
- Process diet changes and new diets from nursing services.
- Identify and evaluate routine dietary functions, especially those involving exposure to blood or body fluids.
- Assist in planning dietary aspects of discharge plans.
- Participate in facility inspections by government agencies.
- Interview residents or families to gather diet history.
- Develop methods to determine food quality and quantity.
- Ensure dietary progress notes are detailed and informative.
- Maintain menus according to policies.
- Liaise with families and residents as needed.
- Visit residents to evaluate meal quality and preferences.
- Involve residents and families in planning goals.
- Plan regular and special diets per physician orders.
- Develop individual diet plans.
- Review and ensure compliance of diet plans and menus with physician orders.
- Assist in dietary planning for new residents.
- Offer nourishing snacks at bedtime.
- Make daily rounds to oversee staff duties and service quality.
- Attend meetings and in-service trainings.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Administrator.
