Dietary Manager (Healthcare)

Position summary

The Dietary Manager is a key leadership position responsible for the successful operation of Dining Services. This role involves preparing meals and managing the operations of the Dining Services Department, including staffing, food ordering and accountability, menu planning, food delivery, and sanitation, in accordance with health department regulations. The Director ensures client and customer satisfaction with efficient, cost-effective management that meets and exceeds expectations. They also assist in maintaining a positive physical and social environment for residents.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Supervise, assign duties, and direct all food service department employees, maintaining full accountability for dining services.
  2. Ensure equipment maintenance and that work areas are clean, safe, and orderly. Adhere to procedures regarding infection control, food safety, chemical handling, fire safety, and sanitation, addressing noncompliance promptly.
  3. Maintain food costs within budget and enforce inventory control.
  4. Exercise independent judgment and discretion in all responsibilities.
  5. Interview, recommend hiring, and orient new staff.
  6. Create staff schedules, exercising discretion in granting time-off requests and modifications.
  7. Track attendance and implement disciplinary actions when necessary.
  8. Enforce policies and procedures, including employee conduct, safety, and sanitation policies. Recommend corrective actions as needed.
  9. Evaluate staff performance and suggest employment adjustments based on evaluations.
  10. Conduct quarterly dietary QA audits.
  11. Plan community and individual resident menus in coordination with primary care providers, medical staff, and community team. Organize special events as needed.
  12. Ensure meals are prepared according to menus and recipes, presented attractively, and meet nutritional standards. Provide snacks for residents with special dietary needs.
  13. Supervise proper storage, defrosting, and preparation of food following safety procedures.
  14. Ensure excellent customer service to residents and staff, performing duties courteously and professionally.
  15. Prioritize resident safety and satisfaction, taking proactive initiatives.
  16. Greet visitors warmly, including residents' families, prospective residents, referral sources, vendors, and regulators.
  17. Respond appropriately to phone inquiries.
  18. Ensure compliance with regulations regarding residents' rights.
  19. Ensure all employees attend required training sessions and provide in-service training as needed.
  20. Participate in training sessions as directed by supervisors.
