Position Summary
The Dietary Manager is a key leadership position directly responsible for the successful operation of Dining Services. The Dietary Manager is responsible for actively preparing meals and managing the operations of the Dining Services Department, including staffing, food ordering and accountability, preparation, menu planning, food delivery, and sanitation in accordance with appropriate health department regulations. The Director ensures client, customer service/satisfaction with efficient cost-effective management that both meets and exceeds stated expectations. Assist in maintaining a positive physical and social environment for residents.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Responsible for supervising, assigning duties and tasks while directing the work of all food service department employees with full accountability of dining services department.
  • Ensure equipment is maintained and work areas are clean, safe, and orderly. Adhere to procedures regarding infection control, food-borne illness prevention, harmful chemical handling, fire safety, and sanitation, addressing any noncompliance. Maintain food costs within budgetary constraints and strict inventory control.
  • Demonstrate independent judgment and discretion.
  • Interview, make hiring recommendations, and orient new staff.
  • Schedule and reschedule staff using independent judgment and discretion regarding employee requests for time off or modifications in work schedules.
  • Track attendance and carry out disciplinary action where appropriate.
  • Communicate and enforce policies and procedures, including the employer’s policies dealing with employee conduct, safety, sanitation, and other human resource policies.
  • Evaluate performance and recommend changes to terms and conditions of employment.
  • Complete dietary QA audits on a quarterly basis.
  • Plan community and individual resident menus as ordered by the primary care provider in coordination with Affinity staff and medical staff if necessary. Plan special events as needed.
  • Ensure meals are prepared according to menu and recipes, presented in an attractive manner, and that appropriate snacks are available to residents with special dietary needs.
  • Ensure all utensils, dishes, equipment, and work areas are cleaned properly and timely. Supervise safe food storage and preparation.
  • Ensure employees provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Perform job duties for residents and with team members courteously and professionally.
  • Take initiative to ensure resident safety and satisfaction is a priority.
  • Meet and greet visitors in a friendly, helpful manner.
  • Answer phones appropriately according to company and community standards.
  • Ensure compliance and understanding of all regulations regarding residents’ rights.
  • Ensure employees attend all required in-service trainings.
  • Provide in-service trainings as needed.
  • Attend training sessions as directed by supervisor.
