Position summary
The Dietary Manager is a key leadership position directly responsible for the successful operation of Dining Services. The Dietary Manager is responsible for actively preparing meals and managing the operations of the Dining Services Department, including staffing, food ordering and accountability, preparation, menu planning, food delivery, and sanitation in accordance with appropriate health department regulations. The Director ensures client and customer service/satisfaction with efficient cost-effective management that both meets and exceeds stated expectations. Assist in maintaining a positive physical and social environment for residents.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Responsible for supervising, assigning duties and tasks while directing the work of all food service department employees with full accountability of the dining services department.
  2. Ensure equipment is maintained and work areas are clean, safe, and orderly. Strictly adhere to procedures regarding infection control, food-borne illness prevention, harmful chemical handling, fire safety, and sanitation, promptly addressing any noncompliance.
  3. Maintain food costs within budgetary constraints and strict inventory control.
  4. Demonstrate independent judgment and discretion.
  5. Interview, make hiring recommendations, and orient new staff.
  6. Schedule and reschedule staff using independent judgment and exercising discretion when creating the schedule and making determinations regarding granting employee requests for time off or other modifications in work schedules.
  7. Responsible for tracking attendance and effectively carrying out disciplinary action where appropriate.
  8. Communicate and enforce policies and procedures including the employer's policies and procedures dealing with rules of employee conduct, safety and sanitation policies, and other human resource policies, and directly discipline and effectively recommend corrective and disciplinary action to enforce such policies.
  9. Evaluate performance and effectively recommend changes to terms and conditions of employment based on evaluations.
  10. Complete dietary QA audits on a quarterly basis.
  11. Plan Community and individual resident menus as ordered by the primary care provider in coordination with Affinity staff and with medical staff if necessary. Plan special events as needed.
  12. Ensure meals are prepared according to menu and recipes followed. Food is to be prepared in a nutritional, appetizing fashion, and presented in an attractive manner. Ensure that appropriate snacks are available to residents with special dietary needs.
  13. Ensure all utensils, dishes, equipment, and work areas are cleaned properly and in a timely manner. Supervise and ensure that food is stored safely; defrosted and prepared in keeping with safe and sanitary procedures.
  14. Responsible for ensuring that all employees are providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
  15. Perform job duties for residents and with team members in a courteous and professional manner.
  16. Take initiative to ensure resident safety and satisfaction is a priority.
  17. Meet and greet visitors in a friendly, helpful manner (Visitors include anyone who visits the community; specifically, current residents' families and friends, prospective residents and their families, referral sources, vendors, and regulators).
  18. Answer phones appropriately, according to company and community standards.
  19. Ensure compliance and understanding of all regulations regarding residents' rights.
  20. Responsible for ensuring that employees attend all required in-service trainings.
  21. Provide in-service trainings as needed.
  22. Attend training sessions as directed by supervisor.
