Job description

Key Job Duties and Responsibilities

The Cook prepares food in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations, following our established policies and procedures, and as directed by the Director of Food Services.

  1. Comply with the Facility’s personnel, safety, and corporate policies and procedures.
  2. Report any allegations of resident abuse/neglect immediately to the Administrator, Director of Nursing, or Charge Nurse on Duty.
  3. Treat residents, family members, visitors, and team members with respect and dignity.
  4. Maintain the confidentiality of all resident and family information.
  5. Report to work on time and as scheduled.
  6. Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals to the Director of Food Services.
  7. Ensure staff compliance with all state and federal regulations.
  8. Follow the schedule established by the Dietary Manager.
  9. Review menus prior to food preparation.
  10. Inspect special diet trays to ensure the correct diet is served to each resident.
  11. Follow all dietary procedures in accordance with established policies.
  12. Assist in establishing the food service production line to ensure timely meal preparation.
  13. Process diet changes and new diet orders from Nursing Services.
  14. Prepare meals according to planned menus.
  15. Serve meals that are palatable and visually appealing.
  16. Serve food following established portion control procedures.
  17. Prepare food for therapeutic diets as per planned menus.
  18. Use standardized recipes and adhere to special diet orders during food preparation.
  19. Review care plans to ensure dietary information is current and consistent with food served.
  20. Prepare and serve substitute foods for residents who refuse the served foods.
  21. Follow sanitary regulations and established policies during food preparation.
  22. Ensure safety regulations and precautions are followed at all times by all personnel.
  23. Follow Infection Control and Universal Precautions policies and procedures daily.
  24. Assist with scheduled cleaning duties as per policies.
  25. Maintain a clean and safe department environment, ensuring equipment and supplies are in good condition.
  26. Keep food storage areas clean and organized at all times.
  27. Ensure that food and supplies for upcoming meals are available.
  28. Assist with inventorying and storing incoming food and supplies.
  29. Recommend equipment and supply needs to the Director of Food Services.
  30. Make only authorized food substitutions.
  31. Assist in preparing food for special meals and parties.
  32. Report missing or illegible labels and safety data sheets to the Director of Food Services.
  33. Report hazardous conditions or equipment immediately.
  34. Report all accidents/incidents according to department policies, and complete necessary reports.
