Overview

NeuroPsychiatric Hospitals seeks a Dietary Services Cook/Aide at our location. NPH is a leader in providing medical and neurobehavioral care to patients in acute psychiatric distress. The Dietary Services Cook/Aide communicates with residents, dietary staff, other personnel, family members, visitors, and the public. Responsibilities include preparing nourishing meals, performing tray line functions, maintaining sanitation, and operating kitchen equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in training and supervising staff and food prep. Help maintain inventory accuracy.
  • Follow work schedules and complete assigned tasks efficiently.
  • Estimate food requirements to minimize waste; properly store leftovers.
  • Ensure food safety and palatability through visual, taste, and smell tests.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the work area during food production.
  • Process late trays and prepare between-meal feedings as needed.
  • Store perishable items per health standards.
  • Perform sanitation inspections and follow safety precautions.
  • Contribute to a clean and safe environment.
  • Review resident diet changes daily.
  • Assist in training new staff.
  • Ensure proper documentation of temperature and cleaning schedules.
  • Retrieve supplies and prepare food for patient meals.
  • Serve food and manage patient tray line requests.
  • Clean and sanitize dishware and trays.
  • Maintain stocked patient tray stations and deliver nourishments.
  • Report to work punctually, and communicate staffing needs.
  • Float to other departments as directed.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Display initiative and calmness in emergencies.
  • Foster good rapport with staff and visitors.
  • Stay informed of applicable laws, policies, and regulations.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies and standards of conduct.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required; coursework in nutrition or food service management preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience in institutional food service or restaurants; healthcare experience is a plus.
  • ServSafe certification required within 30 days of employment.
  • Knowledge of elementary mathematics and equipment used in dietary services.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with others and lead; excellent communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented.
