Horizon Recuperative Care in El Monte, CA is seeking a Cook to assist the Culinary Services Director in preparing nutritious, visually appealing meals for residents, families, and guests while ensuring safety and sanitation per regulations. The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent and at least two years of kitchen experience.

Candidates should have or obtain a Food Handlers Certification within 30 days of hire and may be required to obtain First Aid Certification.

• Check delivered food orders against invoices and stock correctly.
• Be available for weekend coverage and rotating on-call as needed.

Job Duties:

• Support the mission, vision, and culture of the organization through positive communication and leadership.

• Prepare salads, bake desserts, and complete menu meals on time and without the direct supervision of the Culinary Services Director.
• Read, interpret, and follow production sheets and menus.
• Actively look for ways to reduce food waste and utilize resources appropriately.
• Safely operate all kitchen equipment and dishwashing machine.
• Clean and sanitize ovens, grill, workspace, and cooking utensils.
• Comply with all required safety practices and log required information as necessary.
• Check food orders delivered against invoice.
• Be available for weekend coverage and on-call situations assigned on a rotating basis.

Job Specifications:

• This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent certificate and at least two years’ experience with food preparation, food purchasing, kitchen safety, sanitation, and menu preparation in a restaurant, health care facility, or institution.
• Speak, read, and understand the English language.
• Read and follow instructions, recipe books, menus, and food labels correctly.
• Demonstrate a positive attitude and the ability to work well with all people, particularly the elderly.
• Demonstrate willingness to help other staff when needed.
• Must have current Food Handlers Certification or be willing to obtain within thirty (30) days of hire.
• May be required to hold valid First Aid Certification.

Working Conditions:

• Must be willing and able to work required and scheduled shifts, including evenings, weekends, overtime and holidays.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to noisy.
• Withstand heat from cooking area and cold from below zero freezers.
