Position: Dietary Aide/Cook
Crittenden Community Hospital has an immediate opening for a Part-time Dietary Aide/Cook position.
JOB SUMMARY:
This position is to maintain high standards of sanitation and safety for the patient care and cafeteria needs, when cleaning utensils, dishes, pots and pans, etc. Prepares fresh salads, desserts, and other items for patients and/or associates. Assists in preparing the salad bar for the cafeteria and evaluates cafeteria leftovers for proper storage. Must prepare foods appropriately for age-specific needs for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in cleaning the dining room, wash all dishes (trays, silverware, pots, and pans), restock dining room, and perform routine cleaning.
- Assist in preparing salads and desserts for patients and associates per menu for the meal period, assemble patient trays, and routine cleaning.
- Assist in receiving supply deliveries, stocking storerooms, serving associates meals, and routine cleaning.
- Must have complete knowledge of and ability to perform all procedures related to food service.

- Attend all mandatory inservices.
- Responsible for cooking meals for patients and associates using standardized recipes, preparing patient trays, cooking for special functions, cleaning all equipment used in the cooking process, and performing routine cleaning.
- Keep work area clean and sanitize work surfaces according to procedures.
- Wear a clean uniform, name badge, and hair net; do not use tobacco in any form in the work area.
- Provide a positive impression of the Dietary Department when serving the public or other associates in the cafeteria and patient areas.
- Demonstrate the ability to operate electric and steam cooking equipment and dishwashers; clean equipment, pots, and pans after use; initiate repairs as needed.
- Prepare high-quality food according to standardized recipes in the correct amounts in a cost-conscious manner for patients and cafeteria.
- Take temperatures of hot foods prior to mealtimes and record on appropriate forms.
- Set up cafeteria hot foods and provide backup with cold and hot foods, supplies, and assistance as needed.
- Carry out the master menu plan, adjusting for nutritionally equivalent substitutes, leftovers, and emergencies; record menu changes on appropriate forms.
- Receive deliveries in accordance with purchase orders in the absence of other supervisory personnel.
- Plan cooking schedules to have food prepared on time, but not too far in advance; serve hot food attractively and efficiently.
- Demonstrate understanding and working knowledge of proper techniques for food preparation, including modified diets.
- Perform daily final cleanup and lockup of the kitchen.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for assuring quality care by participating in the continuous quality improvement program.
- Acknowledge the continuous quality improvement plan for the area.
- Identify and report problems that interfere with patient care standards.
- Assist in the development of solutions to promote quality care.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have complete knowledge of and ability to perform all procedures related to food service.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to interact with patients, visitors, and employees.
EDUCATION, TRAINING OR EXPERIENCE:
- Graduate of an accredited high school or G.E.D preferred.
- Experience preferred.
