Simpson House has been serving seniors for over 150 years. A not‑for‑profit family of services provides residents with lifestyle amenities including dining, fitness, and healthcare. We are looking for a Dietary Aide to join our team.
Position Summary
As a Dietary Aide in our senior living facility, your primary responsibility is to support the dietary department in providing nutritionally balanced and appealing meals to residents. You will assist with meal preparation, service, and related tasks to maintain a well‑functioning dining environment.
Essential Duties
- Meal Service: Help with meal service by setting up dining areas, arranging table settings, and preparing trays for residents who require meal delivery to their rooms. Serve meals promptly with a friendly, professional demeanor. Clear tables and clean dining areas after meals.
- Dietary Restrictions: Work closely with the dietary department to understand residents’ specific dietary restrictions, allergies, and preferences. Ensure meal orders are accurately communicated and appropriate substitutions are made. Provide assistance to residents in selecting suitable options.
- Sanitation and Safety: Follow proper sanitation and food safety protocols. Maintain cleanliness and organization in food preparation and dining areas, including surfaces, equipment, and utensils. Report any safety hazards or maintenance issues to appropriate personnel.
- Inventory Control: Assist in monitoring and restocking inventory, including food items, beverages, and supplies. Ensure stock is rotated, labeled, and stored properly. Notify staff when supplies need replenishment.
- Resident Interaction: Interact with residents in a friendly, courteous, and respectful manner. Attend to needs and requests promptly, striving for excellent customer service. Build positive relationships to enhance the dining experience.
- Cleaning and Dishwashing: Clean and sanitize dishes, utensils, pots, and pans. Operate dishwashing equipment or hand wash items as necessary. Maintain cleanliness in the dishwashing area and store items properly.
- Team Collaboration: Collaborate with the culinary team, dining servers, and other dietary aides to ensure efficient and coordinated operations. Communicate effectively, share information, and assist colleagues as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Food Safety and Sanitation: Demonstrate knowledge of food safety regulations and sanitation practices, including handwashing and glove use.
- Dietary Knowledge: Understand residents’ dietary restrictions and nutritional guidelines, including special diets such as low‑sodium, diabetic, or texture‑modified diets.
- Meal Preparation: Assist in meal preparation, portioning, assembling, and plating food according to standardized recipes.
- Meal Service: Provide prompt, courteous meal service, ensuring a welcoming and clean environment.
- Communication and Customer Service: Interact with residents compassionately, listen to needs, and respond promptly to inquiries.
- Time Management and Organization: Prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and maintain organized workstations.
- Adaptability and Flexibility: Adapt to changing dietary needs, menu modifications, and resident preferences. Work various shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with culinary and dietary staff to achieve common goals.
- Attention to Detail: Ensure accuracy in portioning, plating, and presentation.
- Cleanliness and Organization: Maintain cleanliness in preparation areas and promptly clean dishes and equipment.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Licenses and Certifications: None.
- Related Skills and Experience: Previous experience in food service or customer service roles preferred; knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices; basic understanding of dietary restrictions; excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work in a fast‑paced environment while maintaining attention to detail; physical stamina and flexibility in shifts.
- Physical Requirements: Walking, standing, bending, and sitting for extended periods; minimum 25‑pound lifting; use of dishwasher, AI Robot Server Assistant.
