Job description

General Purpose

The dietary aide's assignments are determined based on the needs during each shift's activity. The dietary aide reports to the Cook and Dietary Supervisor.

Essential Duties

1. Learn food service routines quickly.
2. Set up meal trays.
3. Strip down returned trays and start dishwashing.
4. Assist with serving meals.
5. Check and record chlorine concentration and water temperature of the dishwashing machine at the start of each shift.
6. Monitor water temperatures during dishwashing cycles.
7. Operate the dishwasher.
8. Prepare nourishments and snacks.
9. Sweep and mop the kitchen.
10. Handle trash and garbage.
11. Store groceries safely and neatly.
12. Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen environment and assist the cook or dietary supervisor as needed.
13. Clean work surfaces and refrigerators.
14. Sweep, mop, and maintain floors.
15. Participate in orientation and ongoing training of dietary staff.
16. Work cooperatively with personnel across all departments.

Supervisory Requirements

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Language Skills: Ability to read technical procedures, follow recipes, and communicate effectively with managers and staff.
• Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
• Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions in various formats.
• Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must obtain and maintain a food handler's certificate.

Physical Demands

This role requires standing and walking frequently, sitting occasionally, reaching, pushing, pulling, talking, hearing, tasting, smelling, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling is also required. Good vision and focus are necessary.
