Job summary

Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. is seeking a Mechanic for its Romulus, MI location to repair and maintain trucks and heavy‑duty machinery.

The role involves diagnosing engines, brakes, suspensions, transmissions, and electrical systems, and ensuring safety standards with PPE and site cleanliness. The candidate should have a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license (CDL preferred), and experience as a diesel mechanic with hydraulic systems.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED and must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must have valid driver’s license, CDL preferred.
• Experience as a diesel mechanic and experience with hydraulic systems preferred.
• Experience welding and torching preferred.
• Mechanic license or equivalent experience.
• Ability to work independently, self-motivated and self-directed.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to maintain accurate records.
• Ability to follow oral and written communication.
• Ability to climb ladders or steps to reach objects.
• Ability to endure physical and outdoor work on a daily basis.
• Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
• Work cooperatively with other employees and the public.
• Must be able to work rotating shifts.
• Must be able to work in an environment where routinely exposed to dust, dirt, vibrations, extreme climate and changes in weather.

Responsibilities

• Repair and maintenance of trucks and heavy-duty machinery.
• Follow safety standards and use PPE.
• Diagnose and repair engines, brakes, suspensions, transmissions, and electrical equipment.
• Perform air system and electrical diagnostics.
• Service equipment per maintenance schedules.
• Change flat tires and fetch parts as needed.
• Test trucks and trailers after repairs.
• Maintain cleanliness and perform related duties as assigned.
