Great Basin College in Elko, Nevada seeks an experienced Diesel Technology Instructor to lead hands-on courses in diesel technology, heavy equipment repair, and diagnostics. You will mentor students and align curriculum with industry needs to build a strong workforce.

This 12-month faculty position starts July 1, 2026, with a salary range of $55,000 to $80,000. A diesel trade credential and 5+ years of industry experience are required, with an Associate degree or ASE Master Certification

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited or certified Diesel Technology trade school.
• Associate degree or higher preferred.
• Minimum of five (5) years of recent industry experience in the diesel field.
• Strong technical knowledge of current diesel systems, diagnostics, and repair practices.

Responsibilities

• Teach lecture, lab, and hands-on coursework in diesel technology and heavy equipment repair.
• Prepare and deliver engaging in-person, hybrid, evening, and/or distance education courses as needed.
• Utilize the college’s learning management system to deliver course materials, assessments, and student feedback.
• Advise and mentor students in Career and Technical Education programs.
• Develop, revise, and maintain curriculum aligned with current industry standards.
• Collaborate with industry partners and participate in Diesel Advisory Board meetings.
• Participate in faculty governance, committee assignments, and college initiatives.
• Engage in ongoing professional development to maintain technical expertise.
• Travel throughout the state as needed, with or without reasonable accommodation under the ADA.

Great Basin College is seeking an experienced and passionate Diesel Technology Instructor to join our Career and Technical Education team. We are looking for an industry professional who is committed to sharing their expertise, mentoring the next generation of technicians, and helping students develop the hands‑on skills needed to succeed in today’s diesel, mining, and heavy equipment industries.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a lasting impact while teaching in one of Nevada’s strongest workforce-driven technical education programs.

Position Summary

Based in Elko, this faculty position is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction across all areas of diesel technology, including heavy equipment repair, diagnostics, maintenance, and emerging industry practices. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with faculty, industry partners, and students to support program growth and workforce development.

This position will be based in Elko, Nevada and has an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026.

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited or certified Diesel Technology trade school required
• Associate degree or higher preferred
• Minimum of five (5) years of recent industry experience in:
• Strong technical knowledge of current diesel systems, diagnostics, and repair practices

Preferred Qualifications

• ASE Master Certification in Medium/Heavy Truck Technology
• Prior teaching, training, mentoring, or workforce development experience
• Community college, technical education, or apprenticeship instruction experience

Primary Responsibilities

Compensation Grade

Academic Faculty – 1

This is a 12 month “A” contract position, 12 month contracts are used for year round programs.

The budgeted salary range for this position is $55,000 - $80,000

Salary is based on relatable education and experience, internal equity and budgets.

Grants-in-aid for Faculty Employees

Great Basin College is proud to provide a reduced‑rate tuition benefit to faculty and qualified dependents. Faculty can take up to six credits per semester at a reduced rate. Dependents of faculty have unlimited credits, but in order to be eligible children must be unmarried and under the age of 24 and must receive at least 50% of their financial support from the employee and/or employee’s spouse or domestic partner.
