Job Description

The Great Basin College School of Industrial Technology and Workforce Development seeks a broadly trained Electrical Technology expert to complement its existing program. The position will be based in Elko, Nevada. This position will be responsible for teaching all aspects of the program. This position has an anticipated start date of October 1, 2026.

The Electrical Systems Technology Instructor provides classroom, laboratory, and hands‑on technical instruction to students preparing for careers in the electrical field. The position combines technical instruction, student supervision, curriculum development, program support, industry engagement, and general faculty responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Teach all aspects of electrical program (for course list, please visit https://www.gbcnv.edu/catalog/current/programs/career-and-technical-education/elec-ct.html)
• Teach and promote electrical safety
• Develop and teach courses in industrial and residential electrical technology, including electrical theory, electrical safety, National Electrical Code, AC/DC circuits, motor controls, transformers, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), troubleshooting, and related electrical systems.
• Provide hands‑on instruction and demonstrations using electrical equipment, tools, meters, motors, control systems, PLCs, and other laboratory equipment.
• Supervise students during laboratory activities and ensure safe work practices and proper use of tools and equipment.
• Direct, guide, and evaluate student progress in achieving required course and program competencies.
• Develop, review, and update curriculum, laboratory activities, assessments, and instructional materials to reflect current industry standards, technology, and workforce needs.
• Prepare and maintain course syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, examinations, laboratory exercises, grading records, and other required instructional documentation.
• Maintain an organized and safe electrical laboratory environment and assist with identifying equipment, material, and supply needs.
• Advise and mentor students regarding academic progress, technical skills, career preparation, and employment opportunities.
• Work with mining companies, electrical contractors, manufacturers, and other industry partners to ensure training remains relevant to workforce needs.
• Participate in program recruitment, student outreach, advisory board activities, and other efforts supporting enrollment and program development.
• Participate in departmental and college activities, Faculty Senate and college committees as assigned, professional development, and other responsibilities expected of GBC faculty.
• Maintain current knowledge of electrical codes, safety standards, emerging technologies, and industry practices.
• Perform administrative duties necessary to support the Electrical Systems Technology program.
• Represent Great Basin College professionally when working with students, faculty, staff, industry partners, and the community.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a certified electrical trade school is minimum, Associate’s degree or higher is preferred.
• Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in industrial electrical or similar.
• Teaching experience in a community college or technical field is preferred.

Required to teach evening (5-10 pm)

Compensation Grade Academic Faculty – 1

This is a 12 month 'A' contract position, 12 month contracts are used for year round programs. The budgeted salary range for this position is based on relatable education and experience, internal equity and budgets.
