Job summary

Hub Group is seeking a Fleet Technician 3 to diagnose, repair, and service class 8 tractors and trailing fleet equipment. The role covers diesel engines, electrical, braking, transmissions, HVAC, DPF systems and aftertreatment, and requires DOT-compliant inspections and PM services.

The candidate should have 4 years of tractor-trailer maintenance experience, a high school diploma or equivalent, ASE/OEM training preferred, and own tools.

Qualifications

• 4 years practical experience with tractor trailer maintenance required.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Vocational / Technical or certification preferred.
• Demonstrated customer service and relationship building skills.
• Expert understanding of fleet maintenance policies, DOT standards and industry practices.
• Organized with the ability to deal with multiple activities in a fast-paced environment.
• Specialized training and experience in the diagnosis/troubleshooting of major components (engines, transmissions, differentials), OEM training courses required (FRTL or INTL), ASE Certification preferred, and 608/609 certifications preferred.
• Proficiency in the use of all tools of trade (including welding equipment, diagnostic equipment, hand and power tools) required.
• Clean MVR required and able to operate service truck preferred.
• Strong work ethic.
• Excellent communication skills. Must be able to communicate in English, both verbally and written, and can read and understand English.
• Demonstrated ability to recommend continuous improvement ideas and actions.
• Results orientated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Proficiency with computers.
• A valid driver’s license is required.
• Ability to work in non-climate-controlled conditions required.
• Willingness to travel for training.
• Must have own tools (hand and pneumatic) sufficient to do any job that is required.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, adjust and repair diesel engines, powertrains, transmissions, brakes, and HVAC systems.
• Conduct Preventive Maintenance (PM) services and tire repairs.
• Perform vehicle inspections and document repairs and WOs.
• Road test vehicles to verify repairs and diagnose malfunctions.
• Mentor junior technicians and provide repair guidance as needed.
• Ensure compliance with DOT standards and DOT record keeping.
• Maintain clean, safe work area and proper use of tools and safety equipment.
• Enter and process transactions in the maintenance system.
