Job description

Responsibilities

1. Diagnose malfunctions and perform vehicle repairs, including adjusting/testing steering, electrical, cooling, lubricating, braking systems, drive trains, suspensions, power steering units, clutches, transmissions, and oil, temperature, gas regulating components, as well as adjusting/testing/rebuilding engines, following all relevant Federal, State, and local guidelines.
2. Test-drive vehicles to ensure repairs have resolved the issues.
3. Arrange for and obtain inspections and approval of major repairs before vehicle release.
4. Maintain a safe, clean, and efficient work area in compliance with all applicable guidelines.
5. Identify and report additional maintenance or repairs needed, including those requiring higher qualification level technicians.
6. Record time, parts used, and repairs conducted accurately.
7. Perform road calls and on-the-road repairs as assigned.
8. Inform Lead Technician of unsafe conditions or vehicle abuse.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2-4 years of medium/heavy truck fleet mechanic repair experience.
• Strong diagnostic, electrical, and AC skills.
• Technical knowledge of major vehicle systems and diesel equipment.
• Experience with fleet maintenance and familiarity with diesel and gasoline systems.
• Possession of the recommended minimum hand tools for a Diesel Technician.
• Good judgment and decision-making abilities.
• Valid applicable state license; CDL preferred.
• ASE Certification is desirable but not required.
