Job description

Responsibilities
  • Diagnose malfunctions and perform vehicle repairs, including adjusting and testing steering, electrical, cooling, lubricating, braking systems, drive trains, suspensions, power steering units, clutches, transmissions, and oil, temperature, gas regulating components. Rebuild engines as necessary, following all relevant Federal, State, and local guidelines.
  • Test-drive vehicles to ensure repairs have resolved issues.
  • Arrange for and obtain inspections and approval for all major repairs before releasing vehicles from the maintenance facility.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and efficient work area, complying with all relevant guidelines and requirements.
  • Identify and report additional maintenance or repairs needed during assigned tasks, including those requiring higher qualification levels.
  • Record time, parts used, and details of repairs and maintenance conducted.
  • Perform road calls and on-the-road repairs as assigned.
  • Advise Lead Technician of unsafe maintenance conditions or vehicle abuse.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of two to four years of medium/heavy truck fleet mechanic repair experience.
  • Proficiency in diagnostics, electrical systems, and AC repair is essential.
  • Technical knowledge of major vehicle systems and diesel equipment is required.
  • Experience with fleet maintenance and familiarity with diesel and gasoline systems.
  • Possession of the recommended minimum hand tools for a Diesel Technician.
  • Good judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Valid applicable state license; CDL preferred.
  • ASE Certification is desirable but not mandatory.
