Job summary

Mahoney Environmental in Joliet, IL is seeking a Diesel Technician II to perform maintenance and repairs on trucks and trailers. This role will complete tasks in a timely manner and support a safe work environment.

Starting pay is $28–$30 per hour with a shift differential and a $2,000 sign-on bonus paid in installments. Schedule: Sun night through Fri morning, 9:00 PM–5:30 AM. Four years of experience preferred; CDL is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Specialized training in replacement of major components.

Overview

Join the Mahoney Environmental Solutions team in Joliet, IL as a Diesel Technician II. This role will timely and thoroughly complete daily tasks for equipment maintenance and repair. Compensation includes a $2,000 sign‑on bonus, paid in installments (first $500 after 90 days, second $500 after 180 days, $1,000 at one year). Starting hourly rate: $28‑30 (plus shift differential). Schedule: Sunday night through Friday morning, 9 pm to 5:30 am.

Major Function

Assist Technician III employees in diagnosing, overhauling, adjusting, and repairing all series of truck and trailer equipment, and in removing and replacing major components such as:

  • Engines (Gas and Diesel) – adjustment, removal, reinstallation, tune‑up as necessary.
  • Transmissions (Manual & Automatic) – removal, reinstallation as necessary.
  • Differentials/Power Dividers – removal, reinstallation as necessary.
  • Starters/Alternators – removal, repair, replacement as necessary.
  • Air Conditioning System – trained/certified, component replacement, evacuation, charging.
  • Fan Clutches – removal, reinstallation as necessary.
  • Power Steering Systems – adjustment, repair as necessary.
  • Electrical/Brake/Colling Systems – removal, reinstallation, adjustment as necessary (Brake Certified).
  • Clutches – removal, reinstallation as necessary.
  • PTO Systems – removal and installation of PTO system and related hydraulic components as necessary.
  • Tires – removal, installation, alignment of chassis.
  • Engine Electronics (Gas and Diesel) – diagnosis, adjustment, repair as necessary.
Working Conditions
  • Work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Exposure to used cooking oil odors.
Specific Duties
  • Perform all levels of preventative maintenance service.
  • Perform mechanical and general appearance.
  • Recondition equipment for trade‑ins.
  • Prepare new equipment for delivery.
  • Identify and determine parts required for repair of disassembled units.
  • Identify warrantable repairs and document appropriately.
  • Maintain work area appearance and safety.
  • Road test vehicles as necessary.
  • Perform duties in a timely and efficient manner.
  • All duties of lesser job classifications.
  • Follow all safety rules and procedures.
  • Fully participate and support all safety initiatives.
  • Think safety and continuously scan the work environment; make suggestions for corrections and improvements.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Training & Experience
  • Minimum of four years of practical experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Specialized training and/or experience in the replacement of major components.
  • Proficiency in the use of all tools of the trade (welding, equipment, power tools, shop machinery).
Qualifications and Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to lift, push or pull up to at least 100 lbs.
  • Ability to perform the major functions, specific duties, and meet the experience listed above.
  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record that meets Mahoney Environmental acceptable standards.
  • Valid CDL preferred with DOT certified medical card.
  • Superb communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Team player.
  • Multitasker.
