Job summary

Mahoney Environmental in Joliet is seeking a Diesel Technician III to join our team. You will strive to meet or exceed goal times for repairs, work unsupervised for extended periods, and assist in training lower-level technicians.

The position runs Sunday night through Friday morning, 9 pm to 5:30 am, with a starting hourly rate of $33–$35 and a tiered sign-on bonus totaling $3,000 over 90 days to one year. Comprehensive benefits and training await the successful candidate.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of six (6) years practical experience or equivalent combination of related education and experience.
  • Specialized training and/or experience in the overhaul of major components (e.g., Mack, Cummins, Detroit Diesel engines).
  • Proficiency with all trade tools (welding equipment, power tools, shop machinery).
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to lift, push or pull up to at least 50 lbs.
  • Good driving record with a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to drive automatic transmissions and use PTO.
  • Superb communication skills (verbal and written).

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, overhaul, adjust, and repair all series of truck and trailer equipment, including engines, transmissions, power dividers, starters/alternators, air conditioning systems, fan clutches, power steering systems, electrical, brake, cooling, clutches, PTO systems, tires, and engine electronics.
  • Perform all levels of preventative maintenance.
  • Identify and determine required parts for repair of disassembled units.
  • Identify warrantable repairs and document appropriately.
  • Maintain work area appearance and safety.
  • Road-test vehicles as necessary.
  • Perform duties in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Follow all safety rules and procedures.
  • Fully participate and support all safety initiatives.

Job description

Sign‑on bonus: first payment of $500 after 90 days, second payment of $500 after 180 days, and $1,000 at one year.

Major Functions

Working Conditions
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Exposure to used cooking oil odors.
Specific Duties
  • Perform all levels of preventative maintenance.
  • Identify and determine required parts for repair of disassembled units.
  • Identify warrantable repairs and document appropriately.
  • Maintain work area appearance and safety.
  • Road‑test vehicles as necessary.
  • Perform duties in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Perform all duties of lower job classifications.
  • Follow all safety rules and procedures.
  • Fully participate and support all safety initiatives.
  • Think safety and continually scan the work environment; suggest corrections and improvements.
  • Other duties as assigned.
