Job summary

First Student is seeking a Diesel Mechanic II in Berlin, NJ to maintain and repair school buses, ensuring safety and reliability for students. The role offers a Monday–Friday 9:30am–5:00pm schedule with year-round work and a starting pay rate of $32.00–$40.00 per hour based on experience.

The position includes company-paid ASE testing, CDL Class B training, and a comprehensive benefits package. Candidates should have 5+ years of diesel/automotive experience, a valid license, and strong

Qualifications

• At least 5 years of diesel/automotive maintenance and repair experience or equivalent technical schooling.
• Vehicle diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
• Valid driver's license required.
• CDL Class B or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment.
• PA state inspection license or willingness to obtain.
• Possession of a mechanic's tool set.
• Willingness to participate in ASE certification program.
• Strong computer skills.
• DOT drug testing compliance. Safety-sensitive position.

Responsibilities

• Ensure vehicles are maintained and safe for our passengers.
• Diagnose and perform maintenance including brakes, engine tunes, suspensions, drive trains, and transmissions.
• Perform preventive maintenance and safety inspections.
• Complete work orders accurately.
• Assist with mobile emergency repair services when needed.
