Job summary

First Student, Inc. is hiring a Diesel Technician to maintain and repair school buses in our Waukegan shop. The role offers a Monday–Friday day schedule, with competitive hourly pay and year‑round work.

You will perform brake work, engine tune‑ups, suspensions, and preventive maintenance to keep students safe and on time. Company benefits include medical, dental, vision, and a 401(k) with company match, plus training and advancement opportunities across North America.

Qualifications

• 1–5+ years of diesel or automotive maintenance/repair experience or equivalent technical school education.
• Vehicle diagnostic and problem‑solving skills.
• Must have valid driver's license and CDL Class B or ability to obtain within 60 days.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair school buses to ensure safety and reliability.
• Diagnose and perform repairs including brakes, engine tune-ups, suspensions, drive trains and transmissions.
• Perform preventive maintenance and safety inspections; complete work orders.
• Assist with mobile emergency repair services when needed.
