Job summary

First Student is seeking a Diesel Technician to maintain and repair school buses in our shop serving Lockport, LA. The role offers a Monday–Friday day shift with year-round work and a path to advancement across 540 locations in the U.S. & Canada.

You will diagnose, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on vehicles, with company-paid training for CDL B and ASE testing. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, and a 401(k) match.

Qualifications

• 4–8 years of diesel/auto maintenance or equivalent technical education.
• Vehicle diagnostics and problem-solving skills.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• CDL Class B or ability to obtain within 60 days; company-paid training.
• Possession of a mechanic’s tool set.
• Willingness to pursue ASE certification (training, testing, bonuses).
• Strong computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair school buses for safety and reliability.
• Diagnose and perform maintenance: brakes, engine tune-ups, suspensions, drive trains, transmissions.
• Perform preventive maintenance and safety inspections; complete work orders.
• Assist with mobile emergency repair services when needed.
