Job summary

Casella Waste is seeking a Diesel Technician Apprentice to work alongside experienced technicians, focusing on preventative maintenance and safety of vehicles and equipment. The role offers hands-on learning, with a starting pay range of $23-$25 per hour and a $2,000 annual tool allowance.

Trainees will develop diagnostic and repair skills, support senior technicians on projects, and advance through defined technician pathways as they gain experience and training.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; must be 18+ and eligible to work in the United States.
• Valid Class A, B, or C driver’s license required.
• Basic knowledge or experience in automotive, diesel or heavy equipment diagnostics and repair.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, listening and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work in a team and provide customer service.

Responsibilities

• Learn basic parts, processes and maintenance techniques as instructed by technicians.
• Complete work orders and perform maintenance tasks based on inspections.
• Follow safety policies and assist with preventative maintenance inspections.
• Aid senior technicians on larger projects and repairs.
• Identify defects affecting availability and operator safety.
• Adjust brakes, clutches and hydraulic components; perform tire changes and repairs.
• Build, rebuild or replace hydraulic components and hoses.
• Learn lockout/tagout procedures and participate in training opportunities.
