Job summary

XPO seeks a Mechanic Apprentice in Columbus, OH, to perform routine maintenance on heavy-duty diesel equipment, trailers, and related systems. You’ll work with DOT/EPA/OSHA guidelines, inspect components, and assist in repairs.

Qualifications

• 1 year of experience in tractor and trailer inspection or tech school with heavy-duty truck/trailer maintenance certification
• Valid driver’s license required
• Willing to work days, evenings, and weekends
• Brake inspection qualified per FMCSA 396.25
• Vehicle inspection qualified per FMCSA 396.19
• Basic hand tools required for heavy-duty trailer and tractor maintenance

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance on heavy-duty diesel equipment, forklifts, and trailing equipment per manufacturer, DOT, and company schedules
• Follow DOT, EPA, Interstate Authority, OSHA rules and regulations
• Access all equipment areas to inspect and perform maintenance on vehicles and trailers
• Repair or rebuild equipment systems as needed
• Conduct safety inspections and prepare safety documentation
• Move trailers on site using hostler in various weather conditions
• Record job times and parts on repair orders
• Operate specialized tooling and vehicles
• Keep work area clean, safe, and organized
• Collaborate with operations and shop management
