Job summary

XPO is seeking a Diesel Mechanic in the United States (Romulus, MI area) to perform maintenance on class 6–8 diesel equipment, trailers, and related machinery. You will inspect, diagnose, and repair components, ensuring DOT/EPA compliance and safety.

Qualifications

• 2 years of tractor/trailer experience or a technical school degree with certification in heavy-duty truck/trailer maintenance.
• EPA refrigerant certification within 90 days of hire (EPA HVAC)
• Valid driver’s license
• Basic welding skills (Oxy/Acetylene, MIG and ARC) and mechanical skills
• Basic hand tools for heavy-duty maintenance
• Basic computer skills
• Brake inspection qualification per FMCSA 396.25
• Vehicle inspection qualification per FMCSA 396.19
• Flexible to work days, evenings, nights, weekends
• Trailer repair, diesel diagnostics and preventive maintenance experience
• Diagnose and repair vehicle air conditioning systems
• Prior mechanical experience such as automotive or skilled trades (preferred)
• ASE certifications (preferred)
• Experience with trailer repair and DOT/EPA regulations

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance on class 6–8 diesel equipment, forklifts, and trailing equipment.
• Inspect and access equipment for maintenance work.
• Repair or rebuild parts of systems.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment issues and perform repairs.
• Follow DOT, EPA, OSHA regulations and safety procedures.
• Conduct safety inspections and document findings.
• Maintain proficiency with equipment and productivity-enhancing technologies.
• Move trailers on the property; operate hostler in all weather.
• Log job times and parts on repair orders.
• Operate specialized tooling and vehicles.
• Keep work area clean, safe, and organized.
• Interact with operations and shop management.
