Job description

Diesel Mechanic

Location: South Holland, IL

Shift: Mon - Friday, 1st Shift

Pay: $30 - $43 per hour

Requirements:

• Servicing gasoline and diesel-powered buses, from basic maintenance and minor repairs to full vehicle service
• Diagnose mechanical defects and perform preventive maintenance
• Major and minor engine and transmission overhauls
• Service and maintain brakes, air compressors, fuel systems, ignitions, HVAC systems, and wheelchair lifts
• Maintain vehicle air conditioning units
• Inspect and repair school buses according to DOT requirements
• Keep records of time and materials used

Education and Work Experience:

• Experience with medium-duty buses, preferably International Truck/Bus
• Own set of tools required
• Knowledge of codes and laws related to pupil transportation, including IDOT inspections
• CDL Class B license with air brake endorsement preferred
• A/C certification
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and provide excellent customer service
• Ability to work independently and complete assignments timely

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to perform essential job functions safely and successfully, complying with ADA, FMLA, and other standards
• Maintain regular, punctual attendance
• Clear communication skills
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
