Refrigeration / Diesel Technician

Job Summary

This position is responsible for routine maintenance, diagnostics, and repair on trucks, vehicles, and related equipment. Candidates should have knowledge of basic mechanic’s tools, diagnostic equipment, and strong attention to detail, communication, and customer service skills. Ability to work independently or as part of a team is essential.

Mechanic Responsibilities

1. Conduct diagnostics and repairs on starting & charging systems, cooling, electrical, and fault codes.
2. Inspect and diagnose mechanical issues, faulty parts, and perform repairs accordingly.
3. Perform leak detection, compressor replacements, soldering refrigerant lines, and engine seal replacements following manufacturer standards.
4. Perform routine maintenance and federal inspections on trailers and trucks.
5. Document repairs and follow safety protocols.
6. Maintain a safe and organized workspace.
7. Support team members and perform additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge-Based Requirements

• Knowledge of diesel vehicle systems (transmission, exhaust, electrical).
• Experience with diagnostic and hand/power tools.
• ASE certifications are preferred but not mandatory.
• 1-2 years of transport refrigeration or equivalent experience.
• Class A Mechanic: 5+ years; Class B: 3-5 years; Class C: 1-3 years.
• Ability to pass pre-employment tests and background checks.
• Own tools, safety gear, and ability to read/write in English.

Physical Demands

• Heavy lifting up to 100 lbs, prolonged walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, and manual dexterity.
• Good vision, hearing, and ability to work in various environmental conditions.

Work Environment

Indoor and outdoor shop work, exposure to weather, noise, chemicals, and potential hazards such as moving vehicles and high places.

Required Tools by Tech Classification

Various tool sets and safety equipment specific to each technician level.
