Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • At least one ASE Certification OR Michigan Heavy-Duty Truck Mechanic State Certification required.
  • Experience with diesel equipment, trailer repair, or heavy-duty vehicle maintenance.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and diagnostic software.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to lift, bend, climb, and work in physically demanding environments.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance (PM) inspections.
  • Conduct brake, tire, lighting, and DOT inspections.
  • Diagnose and repair compressed air, ABS, and electrical systems.
  • Replace airbags, wheel seals, bearings, brake components, and air valves.
  • Perform welding and fabrication repairs.
  • Repair or replace floors, crossmembers, roof sections, panels, doors, hinges, and ICC bumpers.
  • Conduct trailer alignments and frame repairs.
  • Complete emergency roadside service calls as needed.
  • Test repaired equipment to verify proper operation.
  • Maintain accurate service records and parts documentation.
  • Mentor and support less experienced technicians.

Pay: $28.00–$35.00 per hour, depending on experience and certifications

Additional Compensation: Weekly pay, certification-based advancement opportunities, and a 3% pay increase for each certification

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM

We are currently seeking a skilled Diesel Technician to join our Service Department in Byron Center, Michigan.

Position Summary

The Diesel Technician II performs inspections, diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on trailers and diesel-powered equipment. This role requires strong troubleshooting abilities, hands-on mechanical skills, and the ability to work independently while maintaining a high standard of quality and safety.

Candidates must be comfortable working both inside the shop and outdoors in varying weather conditions, including working at heights, around dust, chemicals, and heavy equipment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with ABS, air brakes, and electrical systems
  • Welding and fabrication experience
  • FHWA and DOT inspection experience
  • Trailer alignment and frame repair experience
  • Refrigerated trailer repair experience
