Job summary

Murphy-Hoffman Company is seeking a Diesel Service Technician / Mechanic in Des Moines, IA. This role performs heavy-duty mechanical repair under supervision and offers on-the-job training within a development program aimed at achieving Service Journeyman status.

The successful candidate will work on engines, fuel and electrical systems, transmissions, cooling, brakes, and general maintenance, while following safety procedures and maintaining an organized shop.

Qualifications

• CDL preferred.
• Minimum three years hands-on experience or graduate of vocational courses.
• A/C, Brake and DOT Annual Inspector Certifications required.
• Necessary tools to perform position responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Performs and/or assists in the performance of general mechanical duties.
• Gains experience by working on engines, fuel systems, electrical systems, transmissions, cooling systems, chassis, brakes, engine tune-up, and general maintenance.
• Works on major components with close supervision.
• Performs trouble shooting on minor problems.
• Attends training sessions and meetings.
• Maintains a neat and orderly working area, and proper handling of company tools.
• Advises the Shop Foreman if additional repair work is necessary.
• Follows safe work practices and procedures, uses safety equipment when required, seeks assistance when necessary.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
