Qualifications

  • ASE Certification(s) in Diesel Engines highly desirable.

Job Title: Diesel Service Technician
Location: Lou Fusz Ford – Highland, Illinois
Job Type: Full-Time

Position Summary:

Lou Fusz Ford of Highland is seeking a skilled and motivated Diesel Service Technician to join our dynamic service department. As a member of Local 313, this union position offers excellent benefits, job security, and a supportive work environment governed by the standards of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW), A.F.L. - C.I.O.

The Diesel Service Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered vehicles and equipment with precision and efficiency. This individual plays a key role in ensuring the reliability, safety, and performance of our customers’ vehicles.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Diagnose and repair diesel engines and related components including fuel systems, emissions systems, electrical and electronic controls, transmissions, brakes, and HVAC systems.
  2. Perform routine maintenance services such as oil changes, fluid checks, and filter replacements.
  3. Conduct vehicle inspections to identify mechanical or safety issues.
  4. Use diagnostic tools and service software to troubleshoot and repair systems accurately.
  5. Adhere to manufacturer and dealership service procedures, guidelines, and safety protocols.
  6. Communicate clearly with service advisors and other team members regarding repair status and recommendations.
  7. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  8. Stay current with technical training and certifications as required.
Qualifications:
  1. High school diploma or GED; technical or vocational training preferred.
  2. Minimum 2 years of experience working with diesel engines in a dealership or heavy-duty truck environment.
  3. ASE Certification(s) in Diesel Engines or related areas highly desirable.
  4. Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
  5. Proficient with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
  6. Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred or willingness to obtain.
  7. Ability to lift heavy objects and perform physical labor in a shop environment.
  8. Must be a member in good standing, or eligible to join Local 313 IAMAW.
