Job summary

The State of Indiana, Fort Wayne Sub-District, seeks a Diesel Mechanic to perform repairs and maintenance on heavy equipment, light vehicles, and related tools. You will diagnose issues, repair engines, transmissions, brakes, and implement safety practices in a dynamic public-works environment.

Candidates should have a valid CDL (Class A or B) or obtain one within 90 days, with CDL training provided onsite.

Qualifications

Must possess a valid Class A or Class B CDL or obtain one within the first 90 days of employment.
Thorough knowledge of automobile functions, systems, and repairs.
Ability to understand and instruct others in the use of diagnostic equipment.
Strong safety awareness and adherence to procedures.
High school diploma or equivalent with 1+ years relevant experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

Rebuild, replace, and/or repair major parts on cars, light trucks, heavy-duty trucks and heavy equipment.
Perform minor repairs and related mechanical work, including tires, diesels, and hydraulic components.
Install snowplow blades and repair plow assemblies.
Maintain EMS records on parts used and work performed.
Service and repair highway equipment in the field and coordinate with shop foreman.
