Job description

Utilize expertise in diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on both Diesel and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles to maintain GFL’s fleet in safe and continuous “road ready” condition.

Essential Functions:

1. Diagnose and repair Diesel and CNG trucks, including engines, electrical systems, propane systems, hydraulics, and fuel systems.
2. Lead inspections of brake systems, engine components, emission systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other critical parts to ensure proper operation.
3. Provide guidance and mentorship to level B and C mechanics.
4. Prioritize repairs for efficiency and timely work order completion.
5. Review mechanical write-ups and coordinate repair schedules.
6. Perform DOT and brake inspections on all vehicles.
7. Complete reports, work orders, order parts, and perform administrative duties daily.
8. Maintain safe working conditions and ensure safety regulation compliance.
9. Interpret electrical and diagnostics schematics.
10. Participate in training to enhance skills and knowledge.
11. Maintain a clean work area.

Education, Training, Experience, and Licensing/Certification Requirements:

• Knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and related regulations.
• Brake safety certificate and 609 A/C system certification required.
• ASE Certifications preferred.
• Ability to interpret detailed schematics and manuals.
• Effective communication skills at all organizational levels.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, manuals, and instructions.
• Experience with diagnostic software; computer literate and trainable in software systems.
• Class A or B CDL preferred or willingness to obtain within six months.
• Minimum of 5 years' diesel/CNG maintenance experience.

Physical and Mental Demands:

• Ability to stand, sit, walk, use hands, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, climb, and balance.
• Concentrated mental and visual attention required.
• Visual requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
• Operate trucks and equipment as needed.
• Use computer and related devices throughout the workday.
• Climb ladders, bend, stand for long periods, reach above shoulders, lift to 50 pounds, and push/pull up to 100 pounds.
