Job summary

Transdev in Williamsburg, VA is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel engines across our fleet of buses and light trucks. You will perform PMs, inspections, and repairs to ensure vehicle safety and reliability for daily operations.

Ideal candidates have a Class B CDL with Air Brake, 3–5 years of relevant experience, and are willing to pursue ASE certifications. Competitive benefits and a strong safety culture are offered.

Qualifications

• Class B CDL with Air Brake endorsement required; CDL must be obtained within 90 days of employment.
• Virginia State inspector license preferred.
• 3–5 years of automotive and diesel transit bus or heavy truck maintenance/repair experience, or a mix of education and experience.
• Possess a mechanic’s tool set; ASE certifications preferred; must be willing to participate in ASE certification program.

• Perform preventative maintenance and safety inspections on fleet vehicles.
• Diagnose and repair brakes, suspensions, engines, drivetrains, transmissions and other components.

Transdev is now hiring a Diesel Mechanic for our shop serving Williamsburg, Virginia!

Transdev in Williamsburg, VA is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to bolster our team. This role demands

expertise in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines across various vehicles and equipment. As a

Diesel Mechanic, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring safety, efficiency, and longevity for our vehicles.

Transdev is proud to offer:

• Competitive compensation package of minimum $30.00 – Maximum $35.00

• An additional $.25 per hour for each ASE certification you possess or obtain

Key Responsibilities:

As a Diesel Mechanic with Transdev, you will help maintain and repair Gillig, New Flyer, Orion transit buses, Ford, Chevy, Dodge light trucks, and vans to ensure vehicle readiness & safety. Other major job duties include:

• Perform preventative maintenance (PMs), safety inspections, and annual maintenance inspections.

• Diagnose and perform all phases of vehicle and equipment repair including brakes, suspensions, engines, drivetrains, transmissions, and other repairs.

• Ensure work orders are completed accurately.

• Assist with road calls and emergency services as necessary.

Qualifications:

• A minimum of a Class B CDL with an Air Brake indorsement is required. Candidates must obtain CDL within 90 days of employment.

• Virginia State inspectors license is highly preferred

• At least 3 - 5 years of automotive and diesel transit bus or heavy truck maintenance & repair employment experience or a combination of technical school education & experience.

• Possess a mechanic’s tool set

• ASE certifications are preferred. Must be willing to participate in the company ASE certification program (company training, testing, and bonuses provided!)

• Subject to DOT drug testing. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including marijuana, for any reason.

Physical Requirements:

• The essential functions of this position require the ability to:

• Work outside in varying temperature, weather, and humidity conditions-100% of the job is performed outside, work alone and in remote locations.

• Sit for extended periods (up to 6–8 hours per day); frequently walk for long distances and on possible sloped ground or slippery and uneven surfaces

• Push and pull objects, occasionally throughout the workday; lift material weighing up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance; occasionally bend, kneel, or crouch to files or equipment stored at ground level

• Withstand heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job; tolerate exposure to considerable amounts of dust, vehicle fumes and noise.
