Company Overview (About Us): We are a growing trucking and construction company based in Virginia, providing hauling, site prep, and heavy equipment services across the region. We are seeking a seasoned Diesel Mechanic Shop Lead to oversee operations in our heavy-duty truck repair shop. This role combines hands-on mechanical work with leadership responsibilities, ensuring efficient workflow, high-quality service and adherence to safety standards.

Position Overview / Job Description: We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Diesel Mechanic Shop Lead to oversee and drive the success and growth of our heavy-duty truck repair operations. This critical leadership role blends hands-on technical expertise with operational oversight , ensuring that every repair, service, and maintenance task meets the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency. This position is ideal for a seasoned diesel mechanic with leadership experience who is ready to step into a role that combines technical mastery with operational leadership .

Key Responsibilities:

·Lead and supervise the shop team: Manage a crew of diesel mechanics and technicians, ensuring daily work assignments are distributed efficiently and completed to high standards.

·Perform diagnostics and complex repairs: Troubleshoot and repair diesel engines, transmissions, braking systems, suspension components, electrical systems, and other Class 8 truck and trailer systems.

·Ensure safety and compliance: Maintain a safe work environment by enforcing OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and Department of Transportation (DOT) compliance requirements.

·Monitor workflow and shop productivity: Track repair timelines, prioritize urgent jobs, and manage shop floor organization to minimize downtime and increase throughput.

·Quality control: Inspect completed work to verify repairs meet or exceed company and industry standards; handle corrective actions if necessary.

·Inventory and parts management: Oversee shop inventory levels, track parts usage, place orders with vendors, and manage incoming shipments to ensure minimal disruption to operations.

·Technical training and mentorship: Train, coach, and develop junior mechanics to build technical skills and ensure compliance with evolving technologies and diagnostic tools.

·Customer and internal communication: Serve as the primary liaison between the shop, customers, fleet managers, and company leadership to provide updates on repair status, costs, and timelines.

·Recordkeeping and documentation: Ensure accurate and complete maintenance logs, repair orders, work hours, and inspection records in compliance with internal policies and external regulations.

·Maintain shop equipment and tools: Monitor equipment usage and condition, coordinate repairs or calibration as needed, and recommend purchases of new equipment to improve shop efficiency.

·Support continuous improvement: Identify opportunities to improve shop processes, reduce repair cycle times, and enhance service quality while controlling costs.

·Hands-on repair leadership: Step in to assist with or lead complex repairs and critical jobs, setting the standard for workmanship and productivity.

·Hands-on leader willing to support the team in daily operations. Proven ability to supervise and mentor a team of mechanics. Motivates team members and fosters a positive, safety-focused shop culture.

·High level of integrity and accountability for shop performance.

·Experienced in managing parts inventory and vendor relationships.

·Organized with the ability to track multiple repair jobs and timelines simultaneously.

Qualifications:

· Experience: Minimum of 5 years as a diesel mechanic working on Class 8 Trucks and Trailers, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.

· Certifications: ASE Certification in Medium/Heavy Truck (T2-T8); Master Technician certification preferred.

· Technical Skills: Proficient in using modern diagnostic tools and software for diesel engines. Familiar with Shop Management Systems (SMS) for tracking work, orders, labor and parts. Familiar with preventive maintenance schedules and fleet maintenance best practices. Experience with welding and fabrication would be a bonus.

· Licensing: Valid CDL Class A or B license preferred.

·Competitive hourly wage with eligibility for sign on and performance bonus. Ideal position for a candidates seeking a profit share plan.
