Job summary

Red Classic in Roanoke, VA is seeking a skilled Vehicle Technician B to repair and maintain customer vehicles and equipment, including material handling gear and trailers. You will work independently with limited supervision and may mentor Vehicle Technicians C.

The role requires basic welding, electrical and mechanical diagnostics, and the ability to keep accurate inventory and DOT compliance. You will use maintenance software, maintain a safe workspace, and support colleagues as needed.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Repair and maintain customer vehicles and equipment including trailers and diesel-powered equipment.
  • Diagnose electrical and mechanical issues and perform repairs to an intermediate level.
  • Maintain accurate parts inventory and report discrepancies.
  • Keep a clean, safe work area and warehouse; perform tasks as requested by management.
  • Enter data in maintenance software, ensure DOT compliance, and track return orders.
  • Mentor Vehicle Technicians C as needed.

Job description



  • Job Overview


Vehicle Technician B will repair and maintain all types of customer vehicles and equipment, including material handling, trailers, and diesel-powered equipment; perform job duties independently with limited supervision; provide mentoring and assistance to Vehicle Technician C’s as needed.


Duties & Responsibilities


  • Perform some electrical, mechanical diagnostic, and repair of customer vehicles and equipment, including material handling, trailers, and diesel-powered equipment

  • Perform various forms of equipment repair including drive chain components, automatic brake systems, etc. through an intermediate level of experience and system knowledge

  • Maintain accurate parts inventory, research, resolve all discovered inventory discrepancies and notify maintenance management when a resolution is not available

  • Maintain a clean and safe work area and warehouse, perform other tasks as determined and requested by management

  • Work in the Maintenance software system to record data, ensure DOT compliance, and ensure follow up of return orders

  • Serve as a mentor for Vehicle Technicians C, as needed; may perform other duties as assigned


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities


  • Basic welding and cutting torch operation skills

  • Basic electrical, mechanical diagnostics, and repair skills

  • Understanding of tire inflation systems

  • Knowledge and ability to mount and dismount tires

  • Basic diagnostic tool skills

  • Ability to schedule and prioritize daily tasks

  • Must adhere to company uniform and appearance standards

  • Professional and appropriate interaction with internal and external customers

  • Ability to comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions tools, equipment, machinery and, or materials used to power, hand, diagnostic tools operate material handling equipment

  • Must be capable of driving company equipment including class 8 tractors working conditions

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule and be able to vary the start and finish times, possibly including weekends and holidays

  • Basic computer skills

  • Each technician needs to provide their own tools


Minimum Qualifications


  • High school diploma or GED

  • Knowledge acquired through 3-5 years of work experience


Preferred Qualifications


  • 2 years of education beyond high school in college or technical school

  • Class A CDL or Ability To Obtain within ninety (90) days of employment

  • A.S.E. Certification

  • Refrigerant Recovery and Recycle Certifications

  • D.O.T. Brake, Annual Inspection Certification

  • Diesel, Automotive Trade School Diploma

  • 3-5 years Previous Experience in Heavy Duty Truck Maintenance
