GFL Environmental in Chesapeake, VA seeks skilled diesel mechanics to operate and maintain heavy-duty trucks and equipment. The role offers pay up to $55/hour based on experience, with evening shifts and rotating Saturdays.
Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma, diesel mechanic experience, and knowledge of diagnostic software. Benefits include 15 days paid time off, tool allowances, and health coverage after 60 days.
Safely operate, repair, rebuild, and perform maintenance on company‑owned or leased heavy‑duty diesel trucks and equipment, including rolling stock, to ensure safe operation.
Starting pay: up to $55/hour (based on experience/qualifications). Starting shift: 3 pm–1 am, Monday‑Friday with $2 shift differential; rotating Saturday 6:30 am–2 pm. Overtime after 40 hours worked.
Ability to stand, sit, walk, use hands and fingers, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, climb, balance, taste, and smell. Continuous concentrated mental and visual attention required. Visual requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Frequent physical effort including handling tools and equipment. Frequently lift, push, or pull up to 100 pounds.
Frequently exposed to loud noise, humidity, hot and cold weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, vibration, toxic and caustic chemicals, fumes, and airborne particles. Occasional work in high precarious places. Work environment is usually loud.
