Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation in Rock Hill (York Maintenance Office) seeks two qualified mechanics to work on heavy equipment, diesel trucks, and passenger vehicles. Tools are provided; schedule is Monday–Friday 7:30am–4:00pm with occasional overtime.

Responsibilities include diagnosing and repairing mechanical systems, performing welding, testing, and preventive maintenance. A valid license and CDL within six months are required.

Qualifications

• 1.5 years of related work experience or equivalent.
• Substitution: 1 academic year of SC High School Automotive Technology or Diesel Engine may substitute for 6 months experience.
• Valid driver's license required; CDL Class A within 6 months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair mechanical problems on motorized and specialty construction equipment.
• Diagnose, repair or replace parts for gasoline engines, transmissions, brakes, exhaust systems, and cooling systems.
• Perform wiring repairs, brake jobs, and tune-ups on vehicles.
• Perform welding fabrication for repairs and equipment modifications.
• Operate testing equipment to diagnose problems on on-board computer systems.
