Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a Maintenance Technician to assist with routine maintenance and repair of heavy equipment and engines in a state shop setting.

You will support tasks ranging from preventive maintenance to transmission and electrical troubleshooting, including diagnostic work and field service calls. A CDL is required within six months, and the role involves lifting up to 50 lbs in a large garage environment.

Qualifications

• Six months of related experience or an approved equivalent.
• One academic year of SC High School Automotive Technology or Diesel Engine may substitute for six months of experience.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Attainment of a Class A CDL within six months of placement is required.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform tasks in a large garage.

Responsibilities

• Assist mechanics with routine maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment and engines.
• Assist in repairing automatic and standard transmissions.
• Respond to service calls in the field as needed.
• Perform preventive maintenance on state equipment up to level III.
• Troubleshoot electrical problems and use diagnostic equipment.
