Job summary

Central Power Systems & Services in St. Louis, MO, is seeking a Critical Power Technician to service emergency standby generators, ATS, and switchgear. The role offers a daytime shift 7AM–4PM with potential overtime and rotating after-hours on-call.

We value candidates with generator experience and a drive to grow. The job requires field work, occasional overnight travel, and coordination with contractors across projects.

Qualifications

  • 2 years experience with higher voltage generator maintenance (CAT, Kohler, Cummins).
  • Electrical and mechanical knowledge of diesel-powered generators.
  • Willingness to travel overnight and be on-call.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of critical power systems installation, start-up and commissioning.
  • Perform diagnostic and repair procedures on PLCs, AC/DC, and switch gears.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance on generators, engines, and transfer switches.
  • Coordinate with installing electrical contractors.
  • Oversee correction of issues arising from commissioning.
  • Familiarize with off-site work and mining company projects.
  • Test and troubleshoot various sized generators.

Salary Range: $25.00 - $50.00 Hourly

Position Title: Critical Power Technician

Reporting to: Service Manager

Department: Service

Job Summary

We service all brands of emergency standby generators, as well as automatic transfer switches, switchgear, and other related accessories. The normal working shift is 7AM to 4PM. However, with field service, the opportunity for overtime is common. A candidate should be willing and able to work overtime as needed. Once a technician has proved capable of working in the field solo, they will be part of our rotating after-hours on-call calendar.

Ideally, we are looking for candidates who have some degree of prior experience with generator sets, diesel & gaseous engines, and industrial / commercial electrical distribution. However, more importantly, we are looking for technicians who want to grow their skills.

Responsibilities

Qualifications
  • Flexibility and willingness to be On-Call, and able to work Overtime on occasion
  • Willingness and Ability to Travel Overnight

WORK CONDITIONS

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

This position regularly requires walking, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, kneeling and climbing stairs. It also often requires pushing, pulling, twisting, lifting 50+ lbs. and working in a variety of weather conditions and noise levels.
