Job summary

Pee Dee Regional Transportation Authority (PDRTA) is seeking a full-time Mechanic to repair and overhaul automobiles and heavy vehicles. You will inspect diesel engines, use diagnostics, and perform maintenance to ensure fleet reliability.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, 1–3 years of related experience, and a relevant 1-year certificate from a two-year college or technical school. CDL Class B with Passenger Endorsement is required or must be obtained; PDRTA covers training.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• 1–3 years related experience and/or training is preferred.
• A minimal 1-year certificate from an accredited two-year college or technical school in a related course is required.
• Corresponding years of experience may substitute for education.

Responsibilities

• Repair and overhaul automobiles, buses, trucks, and other equipment.
• Inspect diesel engines to identify issues or malfunctions.
• Use diagnostic tools to locate problems such as faulty fuel injectors or engine misfires.
• Repair or replace damaged engine parts (pistons, cylinders, turbochargers, timing belts).
• Perform regular maintenance: oil changes, filter replacements, fluid checks.
