Job Summary
To provide safe, reliable, and cost-efficient vehicles by performing quality preventive maintenance inspections and repairs, as well as expert diagnosis and repair, to prevent breakdowns on road, reduce vehicle downtime, and improve fleet reliability.
Responsibilities
- Perform inspections and preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment within planned time tolerances to maximize safety, reliability, and cost efficiency throughout the fleet's lifecycle.
- Conduct FAI/CVI (Annual) inspections on all fleet vehicles, including tractors, trailers, dollies, and light-duty vehicles, in accordance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
- Perform quality preventive maintenance and repairs on all fleet vehicles and equipment, including refrigeration units (Reefer), lift-gates, and more.
- Diagnose and repair malfunctions to manufacturer specifications, including engines, transmissions, electrical systems, brake systems, HVAC, and hydraulic systems.
- Address driver-reported issues promptly and efficiently.
- Mentor and share expertise with less experienced technicians and may perform moderate supervisory roles.
- Proficient in electrical meter testing, controls, and electric (DC low voltage) systems.
- Complete electrical repairs and welding projects as needed.
Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or GED required
- Current and valid driver's license (CDL preferred but not required)
Experience
- Technical training in medium/heavy-duty trucks
- 2-year technical school and 4 years of experience OR 5 years of fleet maintenance experience
Certifications
- Annual Inspector and Brake Inspector Certifications
- ASE certifications & Automotive or Medium/Heavy Duty Trucks
- EPA Section 608 (Core & Type II) and 609 HVAC & Refrigeration Certifications
Professional Skills
- Expertise in vehicle systems, electrical, refrigeration, and preventive maintenance
- Moderate welding and computer skills
- Knowledge of DOT/FMCSA, OSHA, and environmental regulations
- Ability to provide own tools; diagnostic equipment and major tools provided by Sysco
Physical Demands
- Regularly sit, stand, walk, and use hands for operation and repair tasks
- Occasionally lift/move up to 20 pounds; frequently lift/move up to 100 pounds
- Work outdoors and in confined spaces; work involves climbing, bending, and working in various conditions
Working Conditions
- Exposure to weather, mechanical parts, fumes, and noise
- Non-traditional hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, and travel as needed
