Job summary

Thompson Machinery is seeking a General Mechanic/Service Shop Technician in Columbus, MS to set up, repair, service, diagnose, and install replacement parts on Caterpillar diesel-powered construction equipment. This role involves working mostly independently with mentors and serving customers in company service shops.

The position requires 2+ years of hands-on equipment experience, a high school diploma, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Two or more years of hands-on equipment/engine experience, diagnostics and troubleshooting.
• Ability to work five-day schedule with daily overtime and occasional weekend hours.
• Own a complete set of basic mechanical hand tools.
• Current valid state driver’s license; CDL may be required for some field positions.
• Professionalism, integrity and strong customer service focus.
• Demonstrated technical knowledge of construction equipment and engine failures.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret technical instruction, service and safety manuals and schematics.
• Perform high-quality repair service on equipment and engines; respond to customer needs safely and promptly.
• Follow safety rules and maintain a clean, safe work area.
• Maintain professional appearance and communicate with the Manager on customer questions.
