Job summary

General Dynamics NASSCO is the leading full-service shipyard on the West Coast, located in San Diego. We are seeking a skilled crane operator to manage a range of diesel-electric cranes, perform lifts, and mentor others in rigging and crane safety.

Knowledge of ship nomenclature and NCCCO certification are advantageous. Responsibilities include operating portal to overhead cranes, adhering to safety protocols, and logging lift data.

Qualifications

• Must understand mechanical and crane operation principles.
• NCCCO License to operate Mobile Hydraulic Crane preferred.
• Crane Operator with extensive Rigging experience preferred.
• Must be able to comprehend ship nomenclature (decks, port, stbd, fwd, aft, frame number, etc.).
• Must be able to coordinate hand, foot and eye movement.
• Must be able to work at heights and in confined spaces; ready for all shifts.
• Must comprehend safety instructions, regulations and warnings.
• Knowledge of weights and conversion (lbs, tons, kilograms).
• Knowledge of universal hand-signals for rigging and crane operations.

Responsibilities

• Operate diesel electric cranes to lift and move heavy objects and machinery.
• Respond to signals to rotate boom, alter angles, and reposition loads.
• Inspect cranes for defects and perform routine maintenance.
• Set up machinery and rig equipment for lifts.
• Record lift data in log books.
• Read load charts and understand load types and landing areas.
• Train and mentor others in rigging and crane safety.
• Perform minor crane maintenance and general housekeeping.
• Other duties related to trade as assigned.
