Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton, CT is seeking a Boom Crane Operator to support submarine construction, maintenance and repair. The role requires reading and interpreting load charts, following procedures, and coordinating with shipyard teams to meet production schedules.

Applicants must have at least five years of crane operation experience on mobile, gantry, portal, or tower cranes of 100 tons capacity, and be able to pass annual crane operator physicals.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum five years experience operating mobile, gantry, portal or tower cranes with 100 ton capacity.
• Knowledge of hand signals per ASME B-30.
• Ability to climb ladders and work at heights over 80 feet.
• Ability to pass an initial and yearly crane operators physical.
• Ability to obtain a secret clearance.
• Crane Operator Certification from a recognized authority (preferred).
• Familiarity with ANSI/OSHA/B-30 standards governing crane operators.

Responsibilities

• Perform Boom Crane Operations in support of submarine construction, maintenance and repair.
• Be willing to work off-shift and overtime to support production and key events.
• Interpret load charts and follow department instructions and technical documents.
• Complete written proficiency exams to document crane operation competencies.
• May need to obtain CDL and CT hoisting engineer license and submit to random drug testing.
• Work at various heights and confined spaces as required.
