Job summary

PennDOT is seeking a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic to diagnose, repair, inspect, and maintain diesel and gasoline vehicles and equipment across Indiana County and beyond. You will work on engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical systems, and perform preventative maintenance while documenting work and following safety standards.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of the Commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program or equivalent
• Two years of journey level mechanic experience with diesel vehicles/equipment
• Equivalent combination of experience and training

Responsibilities

• Repair engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical components on cars, trucks, and equipment
• Perform preventative maintenance: tune-ups, inspections, adjustments, system care
• Conduct state safety and emissions inspections and document results
• Identify equipment problems using testing tools and determine repair methods
• Maintain shop area and tools; assist with major repairs
• Follow safety procedures and use protective equipment
