Job Description
The requirement for PRN is 2 shifts every 4 weeks. The days of the shift could be Monday, Wednesday or Friday. While on orientation for 3 months you will need to work 1-2 day per week Monday, Wednesday or Friday. The hours for the position is 5:00am-5:30pm but while orientation you will follow the preceptor's schedule.
Assist in providing clinical care to hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis patients and families. Dialysis technicians are responsible for assembling and maintaining dialysis machines, checking water treatment system, monitoring dialysis patients, and maintaining the highest safety and cleanliness standards when operating the machines. Proactively supports efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and promotes a safe environment at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

Preferred Qualifications
- Certification as a Dialysis Technician
- One year of clinical or hospital experience
Education
- High school graduate or equivalent
Certification Summary
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association (AHA) is required within 30 days of employment
- Must obtain Dialysis Technician certification within 18 months of employment by one of the following national level recognized certifications: Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) from the Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission (NNCC); Certified Hemodialysis Technician (CHT) from the Board of Nephrology Examiners Nursing and Technology (BONENT); Certified in Clinical Nephrology Technology (CCNT) or Certified in Biomedical Nephrology Technology (CBNT) from the National Nephrology Certification Organization, Inc. (NNCO).

- Competencies as defined by department must be completed within 6 months of employment

Job Responsibilities
- Assists in basic delivery of patient care as assigned by licensed professional personnel using age and developmentally appropriate standards, including taking vital signs, daily weights, and assisting with transporting patients.
- Provide technical skills assistance to the physician or dialysis nurse related to all aspects of operation and monitoring equipment and initiation and termination of dialysis treatments.
- Maintains department and patient care equipment as assigned.
- Responsible for assessing, ordering and maintaining all supplies and equipment required to provide hemodialysis.
- Provides patient teaching in supporting patient education goals.
- Monitors dialysis equipment and trouble shoots problems when indicated.
- Responsible for the preparation of dialysate according to procedures and dialysis prescription.
- Assures water testing is completed and reported according CMS, OSHA and other regulatory standards.
- Completes vital signs and height/weight assessments for patients.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Utilizes effective organization and communication skills in prioritizing and delivering patient care.
- Accepts responsibility for own growth, development, and professional conduct.
- Demonstrates competencies that incorporate age-specific guidelines, including: N equals Neonate (less than 30 days); I equals Infant (30 days to 1 year); EC equals Early Childhood (1-5 years): LC equals Late Childhood (5-13 years); A equals Adolescent (13-17 years); AD equals Adult: ALL equals all age.
