Job summary

Key Whitman Eye Center in Plano, TX is seeking a Diagnostic Technician to support clinicians by performing basic and advanced eye testing, including OCT and HVF. You will triage patient questions, maintain a clean exam room, and confidently use EMR systems to document results.

The ideal candidate has strong communication, attention to detail, and a patient-focused approach. Training is available; CPR is a plus and bilingual abilities are welcome.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Healthcare or patient-care experience preferred.
  • Ophthalmic experience is a plus, but willing to train the right candidate.
  • CPR certification preferred, but not required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Comfortable working with patients and providing excellent customer service.
  • Able to learn basic diagnostic testing and operate eye-care equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic testing of the eye in collaboration with clinic physicians.
  • Assist with calls and emails: triage, RX refills, patient chart questions.
  • Maintain and sterilize exam room and equipment; power on/off devices as needed.
  • Assist other technicians and scribes as needed.
  • Administer topical ophthalmic medication and understand basic ocular pharmacology.

JOB TITLE: Diagnostic Technician
Position Summary

The role of the Diagnostic Technician is to work relatively close with the clinic physicians to perform basic, advanced, and complex testing

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Perform the necessary diagnostic testing of the eye while having a basic understanding and knowledge of these tests such as
    • OCT macula, OCT optic nerves, Lenstar, ORB scan, Optos Fundus photos, EPIC (OPD and glare), IMMERSION and HVF, any other related tests as needed
  • Assist with answering calls and emails: Triage, RX Refills, questions regarding patient chart/plan, etc.)
  • Become familiar with basic conditions and diseases of the eye
  • Maintains and sterilizes room and equipment, properly turning on and off all equipment
  • Assists Technicians and Scribes as needed
  • Administers topical ophthalmic medication and understanding basic ocular pharmacology; names of meds and their uses
Minimum Qualifications (knowledge, Skills And Abilities)
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Previous healthcare or patient-care experience preferred, but not required
  • Ophthalmic experience is a plus, but willing to train the right candidate
  • CPR certification preferred, but not required
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Comfortable working with patients and providing excellent customer service
  • Able to learn and perform basic diagnostic testing accurately
  • Able to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn electronic medical record (EMR) systems
  • Dependable, organized, and willing to learn
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and staff
  • Bilingual skills are a plus
