Job summary

Ochsner Health in Slidell, LA is seeking a diagnostic medical sonographer to collaborate with radiology staff. You will independently perform advanced ultrasound procedures and mentor junior staff, ensuring diagnostic quality and patient comfort.

You must have CAHEA-approved training, RDMS or registry-eligibility within 1 year, and BLS. Experience preferred is 2 years. Ochsner is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Qualifications

• Required - CAHEA approved formal training program in diagnostic medical sonography.
• RDMS or registry eligible (required within 1 year of hire).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.
• Preferred - 2 years of sonographer experience.

Responsibilities

• Verifies physician order and procedure to ensure accuracy.
• Uses radiology information systems to facilitate care.
• Explains procedure to patient to ensure understanding.
• Operates ultrasound equipment to complete imaging procedures per protocol and assists radiologists as needed.
• Reviews patient images prior to transmission for diagnostic quality.
• Completes timely quality control procedures per regulatory standards.
• Assists in department operations (inventory, staff schedules, equipment maintenance).
• Adapts communication and approach to diverse patient populations.
• Performs other related duties as required.
